‘Twas bound to happen, the photo shootus interruptus. It is everyone else’s hallway, too, not just ours. My reaction:
[Rozae Nichols jersey skirt + Alexander Wang pocket tee + vintage turquoise stone cross + a couple of cheap F21 cuffs acquired after drinking split of champagne in car outside of mall.]
This isn’t going to be a very inventive post look-wise, but it’s more just my personal style; what I’m comfortable in, when I’m not thinking how the photos are going to turn out. [Or as aptly titled over at Second Skin, me “Before Blogging.”] Did you know that things that look good in real life don’t always translate to photos? And vice versa?
[My favorite part is the ribbed fold-over waist that is literally the same material as a ribbed Hanes tank. Magical.]
Rozae Nichols… where for art thou? She was my favorite line in the boutique I worked at, and I was often found dressing every mannequin in her pieces. Last I remember, she’d created the line A Common Thread, and she might have put out a few collections since, but I have to be honest: I haven’t done my homework here. But in her line’s infancy—I had a full-blown fetish.
You will too, once you lay a hand on the fabrics.
She broke ground, applying a delicacy and edge simultaneously that at that time was almost like an acquired taste—noted, but passed over. [This was during the Juicy velour revolution. No one wanted ‘serious’.] Odd metallic rubbers formed joints between leather panels. Eyelet was actually edgy. She was doing something different and meaningful, and I can say this with the utmost confidence because: her stuff didn’t sell all that well.
Which is why I was able to buy this (with 6 other Rozae pieces) dirt cheap, on total clearance, one fall before I left for college—including the skirt from this post, which originally clocked in at $598. (Oye. Rozae, she is not cheap.) One of these items I’m so sad to say I sold on eBay a couple of years ago, a deep purple silk top with baseball-like stitching in a burnt red.
The items in her Spring 2010 collection are blowing my mind. She’s the one designer I could say, “I’d have a closet full of her stuff and nothing else.” It’s fly-below-the-radar cool; statement making, but in a way you can’t put your finger on. It reminds me of things Karen from Californication would wear—ethereal, tough, inventive. P.s. eBay is FULL of her stuff, both from this collection I’m wearing, and ones past. Enjoy.
Sort of makes me miss retail………. Sort of.

So cute. I’ve had moments like that too. One time my neighbor opened his front door, and his dog came rushing out as I was standing there to take a picture, and it scared the bugeez’s out of me! It came rushing at me and barked so loud! Lol…it was pretty funny.
