Corks + Caftans

I can’t hear you, tea rose, I’m shooting skeet.

July 29, 2010 17 Comments

[J.Crew shorts + socks + checked shirt + floral blazer + men’s belt + Golden Goose Charlye boots + Sir Alistair Rai scarf + a huge vodka I totally earned today.]

This post is seriously photo heavy, but I’m on my second vodka and caramelizing onions and in the best mood and just really can’t be bothered with editorial responsibilities.

Peeps: I’ve got writer’s block. There, I said it. See, I write for my 9-5, on top of what I write for fun. One’s bean starts to shrivel up and moan like a checker in a cast iron pan.

Lately, about all I have the mental capacity for is noting to Rob how strong the drink he just made me is, then dutifully continuing to sip it under his stern gaze. It started with a heinous project at work that just won’t go away and has the appeal of a turd with a cherry on top, but I’m going to finish it, so help me God, and when it’s over, douse C+C in the boozy blog love that it deserves.

I look like I’m about to unleash the hounds, no? By jove! Everything has been subtly about conjuring up my British roots lately. These shorts almost got tossed [seen previously here like a nerd] but were repurposed today when I realized my Current/Elliott roll shorts were so destroyed you could see my underpants through the pocket hole. Everything else just happened.

This look, for me, is bliss.

Here I am pictured taking one of said beverages out into the street for a stroll. Rob had one of the hardest work days, demo’ing 500 sq ft of flooring, and I wanted to take him outside to brush it off. If I can say one thing about Rob and his line of work… when you’re in construction, you earn every goddamned penny you make. [This is a not-so-subtle stab at those commenters who said that “it must be nice to not have to work,” and “so mommy and daddy still support you?”] And he’s a one-man operation.

Right now I’m icing his elbow and tending to some burns from his knee pads and keeping my lips very tightly sealed about writer’s block.

Putting our drone-like days behind us, we’re drinking another fantastical New Zealand Pinot Noir tonight… holy shit! Gold mine, much?

p.s. I love you.

-Carey

p.p.s. that wasn’t the Tito’s, or the wine, talking. I really do.

I have that belt! We’re twiiiiiiiiiiiiiins (but only counts if you say it like Arnold)!

This might be one of my favorite outfits ever. I am so bad at the girls, effortless slouch in clothes. You win at it, big time.

    J. Crew should pay you. Really. Also, that green scarf in the belt? Perfection. Looks like oversized fringed vest. Gr8.

Yes, yes, love to the love degree. Lord how I WISH it were not 100 degrees with a heat index of 104 and humidity at 110 percent here. Blargh! I’m so jealous looking at my favey crockett bloggers dressing in pre-fall stuff.

    Merci!

Tallyho, I say. The outfit is sublime.

And my deepest sympathies to Rob…I’m tending to an injured carpenter myself. You will never be so dusty, tired, sore, and thirsty as the day you offer to help one of these masters of craft.

How interesting! I love how you styled the scarf. Looking at that glass of vodka is making my hangover worse, however.

Oh Carey, I feel your pain! Writing for a living PLUS writing for a blog does leave your brain fried. I’ve been bad, it’s been a month since I last posted on my blog (finally just put an end to the streak of blog silence). Props to you for blogging so often – and so well. Great outfit by the way! A new way to wear the rainbow of pashminas I have (instead of the typical tie around the neck, pull one end through…)
