Scenes from the Wong Gonzalez friends and family opening night where I enjoyed a very ginny cocktail and some delicious food.
And above, a photo I posted with the following caption:
Fun fact: I’ve had one of these Tootsie Roll pop wrappers folded up in my wallet for the last 10 years. Why? That Indian shooting a bow and arrow at the star is super rare. Rumor has it, if you find one you get to make a wish. My favorite place to eat with my family when I’m home is @cruisersgrill.904, and they give out Tootsie Pops with your check. In times of the most turmoil and confusion in my life, which seem to coincide with being home and stopping by there (even if we’re already late to take me to the airport; my dad knows me well), I yearn for an Indian with the star so bad my head hurts. Because I always wish for the same thing: let it all turn out ok. Last one I found was right before I moved to Upstate NY, not knowing a soul there. “Please let this be the right decision.” I held on to it until just a couple of years ago when I was pretty sure it had done its job. A month ago, I was back at Cruiser’s and after years of eating pop after pop and never finding another Indian, I got one. And I gasped. This is it, but it’s got a different wish tacked onto its little paper spirit. I’ve got a good feeling about it. And yes; that’s a Don Mattingly baseball card. Did I tell you I was superstitious?
I think superstition is really just a variation on loving routine. And I love routine. Which is probably why I’m so into uniform-style dressing by season. [Also inspired by this great short vid of Amanda Brooks talking travel uniforms. Packing around a color story! Brilliant. But now I shop around a color story. Makes getting dressed every day so much easier.]
This season? A color story based on army green, white, beige, grey and black. It’s centered around this phenomenal Rag & Bone belt I’m wearing, paired with either pair of R&B cargo shorts (white or olive) or cutoffs, and a T by A Wang long sleeve (white, grey or olive), then I trade in cuff bracelets and booties and boom—done.
I just talked about clothes. Get Satan a parka!

[Deets for the cheap seats are basically a variation on the uniform I’m wearing all summer: Vanessa Mooney braided suede choker + white Rag & Bone cargo shorts + T by Alexander Wang classic cropped tee + Rag & Bone boyfriend belt + Joie sandals.]
