[Weems, VA post office.]
We could be anywhere in America right now: Nebraska, Kansas, New Jersey, Georgia, here.
The windows on the clapboard houses were molten in the sunset and cottontail rabbits skittered across driveways and trawlers loped through channels, creating a perfect scene to take in from where we sat in the little John Deere, idling next to a marina.
Spent the weekend out in Weems and White Stone, VA doing things like sipping ginger beer, following deer through meadows, riding the Gator around past corn fields, eating oysters from the back yard and practicing my ring toss skills and three pointers on a Fisher Price pool hoop.
File under: days that make you stop and say “Holy shit, it’s really summer,” while you’re driving home alone, late on Sunday.
