Carey Wodehouse v. P.G. Wodehouse

April 23, 2010 Leave a Comment

Steeple Bumpleigh.

Picturesque, quaint, full of friendly people—the perfect fictional town in the idyllic English countryside. Says Bertie Wooster in the Wodehouse-penned book, Jeeves in the Morning, “you couldn’t have thrown a brick in it without hitting a honey-suckle-covered cottage or beaning an apple-cheeked villager.”

Yet… Bertie loathes Steeple Bumpleigh. He even goes so far as to say:

I don’t know if you have ever seen one of those old maps where they mark a spot with a cross and put ‘Here be dragons’, or ‘Keep ye eyes skinned for hippogriffs’, but I had always felt that some such kindly warning might well have been given to pedestrians and traffic with regard to this Steeple Bumpleigh.

Oye! Really? That bad?

Seemingly harmless… but totally treacherous.

Well, meet my own Steeple Bumpleigh:

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!!
