Desperately seeking: Jiffy feet.

May 16, 2011 7 Comments

Carey told me about jiffy feet when we first met. We were in a convenience store on A1A in Florida, when a barefooted-swamp person strode in, the bottoms of his feet blackened with filth. Jiffy feet. And if, after reading Carey’s last post, you thought for one second I was going to miss out on the woodland fun to do laundry—read on.

We had a weekend of rain and mist and resigned to being housebound. Until Carey planned a barefoot trek in the woods on Sunday. Typically, I don’t like being cold or wet—so it was quite an adventure and a perfect opportunity to embrace Jiffy footedness for the first time, and toughen my tender, winter pedals. She barreled through, leading the way—I followed, sinking in mud, dancing painfully over gravel and thorns, slipping on rotten logs and barely missing pivoting in the remains of a mauled bird adjacent to some coyote shit. Moss is nature’s Dr. Scholl’s.

[Carey gathering birch bark paper for a Native American flair to her correspondence.]

[The fear in my eyes indicates I am worried about slipping off the unseen log and crushing my balls.]

This scenery. Come on.

Shorty before we started playing the mushroom drums:

After this photo: “I just inhaled my feather earring.”

All in all, a happy guy despite my wife’s strange hippie inclinations.

these are like wild adventurers feet. true jiffy feet come from a jiffy; slim jim and coke slushy in hand. haha. not that i recommend that! this is awesome and i am jealous of your barefoot romps. one day you will likely move and no longer live immersed in nature, and these memories will be forever cherished. you guys are awesome. i love all of your adventures!

“Moss is nature’s Dr. Scholl’s.” Amen The pictures are gorgeous. Only in the misty rain can you catch the awesome green of the forest.
