Corks + Caftans

Breakfast of champions.

March 7, 2010 7 Comments

When you had a morning like we did the day before, you earned a little in-room feast. And on a beautiful Oregon morning like this, it gave us the perfect excuse to wake up a little earlier, take our time, and leisurely poke forks into a $14 omelette.

[Soaking up some Oregonian sun.]

[Sitting on the floor of the terminal at PDX, waiting for Rob to fetch coffee, wishing he would come back with this pot of French Press.]

Is getting room service ever not awkward? This particular instance, I feigned sleep and hid under the comforter while the guy set out our grub, wondering how Rob was managing to cover his ample chest hair in his bathrobe. What do you do when you’re delivering room service, deftly avert your eyes? I’m far too human for that line of work.

[Morning tunes.]

[Truffle oil IV, please.]

This coffee worked sort of like jet fuel. Case in point: while driving to our first vineyard appointment, Rob tore off on a tangent I’m just now realizing the brilliance of. He invented something—but if I share it, you have to promise not to run off and patent it for yourself.

So here’s what this device does, simultaneously: say you’re at a light. You press a button inside your car and concealed exterior speakers immediately blast the sound of screeching tires. Like, screamingly loud. At the same time, smoke machines start pumping out smoke, engulfing your tires. Everyone thinks you’re burning out! But really, you’re just cautiously and deliberately accelerating into the intersection.

I’m convinced we need a camera crew following us at all time.

Off to Newark—much more Oregonian goodness to come.

I trust your $14 omelette was everything you always dreamt it would be and more…

Thank you for stopping by while you were in Oregon, it was totally great to meet you both. I hope Carey is feeling in tip top shape again, and your memories of the Willamette Valley are overwhelmingly good ones.

Do drop a line if you’re going to be in the area again and keep having as much fun as it looks like you are!
